The grow more food 10 coins set was issued by the Bombay mint on August 15, 1973. It has a mint mark “B” below the date. In all 7563 such sets were issued by the bombay mint. The set contains the rare 1 rupee (10gm) coin as well. The other coins in the set are 20 Rupees (30 gms), 10 Rupees (22.5 gms), 50 Paise (5 gms), 25 Paise (2.5 gms), 10 Paise (2.3 gms), 5 Paise (1.5 gms), 3 Paise (1.25 gms), 2 Paise (1.0 gms) and 1 Paisa (0.75 gms).

Commemorative coin sets for sale over the counter

India Government Mint located at Mumbai (commonly known as Mumbai Mint) is selling Commemorative coin sets over the counter from January 02, 2012 at their newly inaugurated counter. The counter will be open on all working days between 10AM and 12PM.

Payment can be made either by a Demand Draft or credit/debit cards. Each person is allowed to purchase one set per variety of any theme. It is not known which sets are available for purchase through the counter. However it is highly unlikely that these will include old sets. Most probably only the recently minted coin sets may be available for sale. If anyone visits Mumbai mint for purchasing these coin sets over the counter, please do send us your feedback.

5 rupees 2007 Bal gangadhar tilakji error coin

In 2007, the RBI issued a 5 rupees commemorative coin honoring Bal Gangadhar Tilak. However, the lettering on the coin in Hindi mentioned Tilak as Tilakji. Bal Gangadhar Tilak is never referred to as Tilakji. Adding Ji at the end of the name is an Indian practice to show respect to the person (eg Gandhiji). At the inauguration of the coin at Delhi, the error was immediately brought to the notice of the authorities. Except for the low number of coins circulated on that day, no other such coins were circulated. Hence this coin became an error as well as rare coin of Republic of India.

Some unconfirmed reports mentioned that the error was brought to the notice of the authorities by Raj Thackeray. Fearing tension, the withdrawal decision was taken.

The steel coin is even rarer.
